This page illustrates some nice attributes which add character to a hand made rug.
Looking at the reverse side of the carpet, the image below shows a "dropped warp" twisted from two different un-dyed wools.
The Anatolian rug photographed below has a nice finish often not seen in newer rugs. Rather than traditional fringes, this rug features a woven kilim, or apron on both top and bottom of the rug.
