Each individual color element should be counted, abrash excluded. How many individual shades you count in the rug below? Write them down as you see them.
Our count shows two shades of pink, two shades of blue, two shades of brown, two shades of lavender, two shades of gold, two shades of orange, two shades of green and one ivory border. This totals 15 individual colors. For purposes of the Rug Estimator Pro, enter the amount of colors as "12+."
Below is an example of color striations you may find in a typical carpet with abrash. To distinguish abrash colors, we have used colored arrows. Each pair of colored arrows correspond with two separate shades of color due in part by changes in dye. These variations should be counted as one color, even though in some instances abrash can create three or more different color changes. Any other colors not appearing as abrash may be counted individually unless they are isolated to one small area of the rug such as a signature or woven into the kilim of the fringe.
